Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection for SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams now available

While moving your association to cloud administrations, security concerns include another layer of thought; one of trust.

Security and consistence is a progressing procedure, not an enduring state. It is continually kept up, improved, and checked by exceptionally gifted, experienced and prepared work force. We endeavor to keep programming and equipment advancements a la mode through powerful procedures. To help keep Office 365 security at the highest point of the business, we utilize procedures, for example, the Security Development Lifecycle; we additionally utilize methods that throttle movement and counteract, recognize, and moderate ruptures.

At Microsoft we continue systematic approach to disrupting attacks through eliminating weaknesses by eliminating the vectors of attack themselves by implementing architectural changes some of which leverage virtualization, containers, and other types of technologies.

In April 2015 we launched Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection to help customers secure their environment from evolving security threats providing protection against unknown malware and viruses, real time, time-of-click protection against malicious URLs, and rich reporting and URL trace capabilities.

In our continued effort to address the modern threat landscape, today we’re announcing General Availability of Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection for SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams.

Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams uses signals and smart heuristics as quality indicators to identify the files within your tenant that may contain malicious content, which includes correlating the file activity signals from SharePoint, OneDrive, and Microsoft Teams within your tenant with the Microsoft Security Intelligence Graph threat feeds.

Examples of file activity signals include anonymous, company wide or explicit sharing, or activity from guest users. Threat feeds that Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection leverages include known malware in email or SharePoint, Windows Defender/Defender ATP detections, suspicious or risky logins or other indicators of irregular file activity within your tenant.

Measure and grow engagement with group insights in Yammer

Yammer helps you engage employees across organizational groups, form communities and run cross-company initiatives. Community managers play a large role in creating and nurturing groups for these purposes. We want to empower community managers to make better decisions around their efforts on Yammer by helping them better understand the activity happening in their groups.

Over the past year, we have made significant progress on helping Office 365 admins gain insights on how people are using Yammer in their organizations through the Office 365 Usage Reporting Dashboard, Office 365 Adoption content pack and Microsoft Graph reporting APIs. These reporting capabilities provide and extensive view into Yammer usage and adoption at the user, device and group levels.

This week, we are excited to release new group insights in Yammer, providing engagement metrics right within Yammer so that community managers and members can get a better understanding of their groups’ engagement and activity. This, in turn, will help better inform efforts to improve, grow or execute campaigns in groups.

Accessible across your network

We have heard extensive feedback that managing a cross-organizational community oftentimes includes the efforts of stakeholders and champions with limited or no access to the information available in the Office 365 admin center. For that reason, insights for public groups can be accessed by anyone in your network by navigating to group actions from the group’s feed. Insights for private groups, however, are restricted to members of the group.

People activity in your community

Yammer groups are open by default, allowing the knowledge and information created in them to benefit people regardless of their membership status in the group. Passive visitors may gain value from group conversations and apply the information elsewhere in their daily work. In fact, during early research we discovered that in addition to understanding group member activity, community managers find it beneficial to understand the activity of visitors who are not members of the group. This is why group insights break down activity for both group members and non-members.

With group insights, you get an overview of activity for the last 7 days, 28 days and 12 months. This will help you:

  • Know how many members and non-members are active in the group
  • Observe predominant activity – posting, reading or liking messages – of group members and non-members
  • Get a glimpse of how key metrics – for example, number of active people or the number of posted messages – have changed since the previous period

View group activity for both members and non-membersView group activity for both members and non-members

Group activity over time

Group insights show you how posting, reading and liking activities are trending over time. These visualized trends illustrate the contributions of group members and non-members to activity in the group. Now, you can track engagement with content from campaigns or initiatives hosted in Yammer. Identify spikes in activity over the course of the year, month or week so that you can report back to leaders and optimize efforts.

Observe trends over timeObserve trends over time

All the data shown in group insights is available for download on a per-day basis for the last 24 months, which is particularly useful if you want to plot your own trends over a custom timeframe.

To see a demo of group insights in action along with other community management tools available for Yammer, we encourage you to watch our session Introducing new tools to measure and build your Yammer communities from Microsoft Ignite 2017.

To get more details on group insights in Yammer, please check out our support article.

We are excited to see how you use group insights to better nurture your communities in Yammer. We will continue to evolve group insights using the great feedback from customers and partners.

Ignite Live Blog : Communications-enabled business and services

You have probably heard about Office 365 Communications Platform all along the week. It’s now time to see what we can do with this platform. Taimoor has started by introducing the digital transformation helps by contextual communications. It’s changing the way we collaborate and how we are talking with our customers.

Some years ago, these interactions were mainly around telephony, and it was the only way we discuss with our customers. This time is over, we need to take advantages of all modalities to create more powerful line of Business applications with Presence, IM, Audio, video and other services.2.jpg

Microsoft‘s Platform offers lots of services and data to contextualize and make it intelligent

    • Cognitive services: It’s a powerful set of APIs to integrate AI in your application.
    • Bot Framework / Azure Bot Service is a framework to build bots and connect it over different channels (Skype, Skype for Business, Teams, Bing, Cortana and so on)3.jpg
    • Microsoft Graph is also a set of APIs which is exposing Office 365 Services (
    • Azure IoT suite is a set of services to build and process data for iot devices

Office 365 Communication Platform was announced this week. You can find more information in the following session :

  • Create new experiences with Office 365 Communications Platform (BRK2197)
  • Dive deep on building apps and services with the Office 365 Communications Platform (BRK3037)

After this complete explanation of what is available to help the digital transformation, Taimoor explains some concrete examples:

  • Use cognitive services with a bank account. Check your identity before a video conference
  • Extract context and data of the document you are editing (through Microsoft Graph) and create Skype Conference
  • Use bot framework to connect your customers and your employees through several channels : Facebook and Skype for business

He also dived deeper in specific topics:

  • IoT: Connection between things and peoples

Analyze Data produced by iot devices to create preemptive maintenance: an alert is throwing, an agent is available on Skype for Business, he received an IM. If it is a critical incident, an audio call can also be used.4.jpg

  • Virtual Health: Extend care experience

A patient can be connected with his doctor directly in a web browser with audio, video. Each participant on both side keeps the context of communication.5.jpg

  • Internal: Reactive engagement to proactive engagement

Use Teams to post validation in a channel and help managers to be more reactive. An adaptive card shows quick actions (for example accept or deny expenses)

These examples are very interesting and demonstrate the power of communications and Microsoft platform brought together . As I said in a previous post, all the developers should check all the capabilities of Communication platform and services explained below. The main benefits for me are the direct impact of productivity and efficiency either on customer or employee part.

Ignite Live Blogging: Microsoft Teams Behind the Scenes

Teams is the big new collaboration buzz here at Ignite, and at today’s session we get to see behind the curtains and get a little insight about the announcements made at the conference. This is an open Q&A session where the panel will talk about the news at the conference, the reactions to the announcements, and take questions from the audience.

About the team onstage

Darrell Webster – @regarding365

Dan Stevenson – Principal Group Program Manager, Microsoft

Loryan Strant – Consultant Prime – Office Server and Services MVP

Alistair Pugin – Productivity Evangelist – Office Server and Services MVP

Dan gave an introductory presentation with a few important  Key points

  • Microsoft is committed to Skype for Business. I have personally been asked if Teams is replacing SfB, but that is not the message here. There is at least one more server version in the making, and there is no announcement about any termination of SFBO
  • Teams is ready now, but will get readier over time. It is an application in constant development.
  • Microsoft and partners are ready to help customers adopt Teams One great place to start is using faststart or
  • More on Compliance, management and administration will be coming soon
  • All other office 365 teams are integrating their products into Teams

Introduction to the Teams team

Dan moved on to go through a couple of slides to set the agenda for the Q&A, and letting the audience hear some of the Teams team (this being the software engineering organization that builds Teams) experiences and reflections. I reccomend looking at the slides for accuracy, but here are some of the highlights I want to share:

  • The team uses Teams for all internal meetings
  • Teams is used for most 1-1 communication within the engineering team
  • Many use chat, but the general trend is to use channels more than basic chat
  • A few core teams
  • 100 channels (by function, products, announcements, competitive, fun staff and more)
  • Apps and extensions are widely used

After working with Teams for a while, here are some of the Teams team wishes for the future. The wish list is not a roadmap, but rather examples of areas they could look into in the future.

  • Private channels within teams, creating a hierarchy
  • Shared channels between teams
  • Read-only channels for informational purposes
  • Sharing chat history
  • Participant controls in meeting (“Desperately” – Dan Stevenson )

Dan also shared some of the key findings when it comes to factors driving the usage, growth and retention

  • Get the users to use the Mobile app – Users tend to be more productive when using mobile: (mobile users tend to be more active overall when mobile).
  • Make sure users already belong to a team before adding them to Teams. This gives them something to start with.
  • Smaller teams usually tend not to work, 3 is to small, 6+ tend to work better
  • File sharing: People got to the places their files are
  • An IT-led adoption tends to get things going at a quicker pace, where an organic approach will take some time to catch up in volume of active users.

My own summary

“On the way”, “on the roadmap” and “coming soon” are often a part of the answers we hear, and it just shows this is a product in the making. And it will be evolved over time, just as many other products now are continuously being improved. Microsoft encourages us to use Teams and SfB side-by-side until required functionality is ready in Teams. But if the features a group of people require is already available in Teams (like internal chat, meetings and document collaboration) you should really consider to make the swap to Teams right away.

I think it will take some time until the consumers and IT-pros get used to the idea that the product is “never” being finished the way things were done in the “old” days. This is the power of the cloud, it’s a new way to deliver funtionallity into products continously. The time when finalized products are shipped every “X” years is simply over.

Don’t heistate to get started. Use tools side-by-side, and gradually phase out obsolete tools when the new tools cover your requirements. That’s the real message here at Ignite.

A great place to go for information on what is happening, or to submit your own requests is the user voice. Use the “feedback” link within the application to be redirected to the user voice site.
